Super Fun Saturday!

There we were sitting around the table Saturday morning eating breakfast wondering what to do with our day.  Usually we hang around the house, do errands, etc.  "Enough of that.  Let's do something fun!"

We packed up jackets, stuff to add to lunch, the kids, of course, and off we went to the Rainbow Trout Farm in Sedona.  I've driven by it for years and years and never took the time to stop... never had the family that needed something different and fun to do together.  It was a great day and the perfect place to enjoy being outside, being together and having fun.  It was a little on the pricey side, but when you consider that a family of five had lots of fun, got two meals out of it, learned a new skill, and got a little biology lesson (seeing the fish skeleton after you've consumed it), it was actually not bad at all.

Here's how it works: You grab some bait, a bucket, some poles, a pair of plyers, a net, and pick a spot.  You put the bait on the hook and throw it into the pool teaming with rainbow trout.  After you've caught all that you want (you have to keep every fish that you catch, no releases here), you take your fish to the cashier, she measures them, guts them for you (for a small fee), hands you your fish and all the accoutrements (plates, tinfoil, salt, pepper, butter, etc.) and you hand her your credit card.  You light up your grill, prepare your fish to your liking, throw it on the BBQ, let the grill do it's thing and then enjoy.  It was great!

The kids had so much fun. Tom would load up one of their hooks with bait while the other one anxiously waited with the net.  Livvy was so excited about catching one of Sammy's fish with the net that she actually fell into the water (I recommend bringing an extra pair of clothes for the kids, which I didn't, but really I just should have known that Livvy would have fallen in - it's just so her. Thankfully I had worn layers that I could part with, and so she wore my shirt and a random pair of kid shorts that I found in the van).  Ben mostly poked at the fish in the bucket, slapped at the water with an extra pole, and brought Daddy the plyers to get the hook out of the fishes mouth.
Sammy's a born fisherman.  Yeah!
Livvy's first catch of the day!
Ben, just doing his thing.
The family that fishes together...
This is really hot!  Take the picture!
