One Of Those Mondays

Oh has it ever been a "Monday" this morning. It's only 12:30 and all the kiddos are already in their beds napping - they've been there since 12:00, nap-time usually isn't until 1:30.

Before the kids realized that it was indeed a Monday, we were doing fairly well. We got laundry collected and started. We did a lesson in Teach Your Child To Read..., practiced writing some letters, colored a little worksheet. Everybody was having a really good, happy morning. And then, just as we were about to get some French bread baking in the bread machine, somebody said, "Hey, it's Monday. Mondays are those days when nothing is supposed to go right, when everybody just feels cranky, tired and miserable. Why are you guys having fun and being so cooperative?" (not really, but that's what it felt like). Then....Monday began.

Let's start with the easiest one, Ben. Ben must be going through a growth spurt because he was hungry by 10:00 and therefore didn't nap as long as he usually does. So, he of course was not a happy camper until I finally clued in that he was hungry and fed him, brunch I guess, at 10:30 (normally he doesn't get solids for breakfast, just lunch and dinner). Then once he was fed, he didn't stay happy very long because, you guessed it, he was tired because of his short morning nap. I finally laid him down around 11:50.

And then there was Livvy....well Livvy might actually have been the easiest one this morning because she was just left on her own while I dealt with the other two. She entertained Ben for awhile, road her trike, did a page or two in a workbook, etc. But, any time that I had to step in to tell her to stop one thing to do another, she'd start arguing, fussing, etc. God gave me a verse this morning to give me direction in dealing with her bad attitudes, 1 Pet 5:5:
Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed
with humility, for "God resists the proud, But gives grace
to the humble.
"
We're beginning to see anytime she's opposed or resisted, she starts arguing, etc. So, we have some work to do to help her not be so prideful but be "clothed with humility". And, yes, yes, I need to work on not being so prideful too.

And then there was Sammy, oh my sweet stubborn little Sammy. I can't even remember how it really started, but he and I battled it out for over 1-1/2 hours just trying to get him to stay in the corner, calm down, and be quiet. Finally I just let him go to bed and we'll try again when he wakes up. The really sweet part about him being in the corner was that he'd pray saying, "Dear God, help me not whiney". And he'd stop for just a tiny little bit, before something set him off again. Oh, poor kid, he's so much like me.

So, here I am...blogging about my morning while the last load of laundry is finishing up in the dryer, the French bread is baking away in the bread machine (it smells so good), and thankfully the kids are napping peacefully. I know other moms might be dealing with the same things this morning with their little ones, or at least have had these kind of mornings in the past. But, I also know that God can redeem the day. It doesn't have to be "Monday" all day long.

Wow, I can totally relate! Reid went to bed at 12:30 with no lunch because he threw it on the floor...these are the days I can't wait for my husband to get home. =)
